Yesterday, The Strokes revealed the official music video for their recent single, "Going Shopping." Shot in the island of Tenerife, the new film pays homage to Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" and features Emmy-nominated and Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Walton Goggins. "Going Shopping" was the first single off the band's upcoming record, Reality Awaits, out July 24 via RCA Records.
Watch the music video for "Going Shopping," directed by longtime Strokes collaborator Johann Rashid, below:
The visualizer for "Going Shopping" harkens back to the iconic Paul Simon music video for "You Can Call Me Al," where the singer sits next to Chevy Chase, watches the actor/comedian lip sync to his lyrics, and pulls out instruments for a duo jam session. Accompanied by Walton Goggins, The Strokes front man Julian Casablancas plays on the materialistic angle of the single, showing the two unboxing shiny household products as a labor strike (led by other members of the band) goes on in the background.
"Going Shopping" was released in April alongside the announcement of Reality Awaits, originally supposed to be out June 24 yet delayed a month due to a vinyl printing issue. It was followed by May's release of "Falling out of Love."
The Strokes are currently on their world tour supporting the release of Reality Awaits. Tickets are available now.
