Yard Act announce new album 'You're Gonna Need A Little Music'

Today, the British art rock group Yard Act announced You're Gonna Need A Little Music, their third studio album and first piece of new music since 2024's Where's My Utopia? The band also shared the leading single, "Redeemer," along with a flashy, colorful, buggy music video.

Watch/listen to "Redeemer" below:

Between records and nonstop touring, Yard Act found themselves finally in the same room, able to write and play songs together like a proper band. For an "uninterrupted five month period," according to front man and lyricist James Smith, the band members were able to punch out "40 or 50 songs," letting them pursue each idea before whittling it down to eleven tracks. “It felt like freedom,” says Smith. “It felt like everything I’d wanted from being in a band.”

"I think the album is about multiple realities and how individualism has led us, in the modern world, to question if there even is a shared reality anymore because everyone just believes what they want now,” Smith adds.

Thus, due to the experimental nature of the writing, the songs on You're Gonna Need A Little Music warp character, style, and tone, maximizing the use of the "art rock" moniker. "Redeemer," for instance, plays out like a seedy rock revivalist track, decorating the snappy drums with shouting vocals, gritty electric guitars, and punchy lyrics that teeter between the religious and sacrilege.

Last month, Yard Act announced a North American tour beginning in July, coinciding with the release of the album. It'll be their first tour there since 2024; tickets are available now.
