Today, the Manchester rock band Westside Cowboy shared their newest single, "Pin Up Boys," their own sparsely arranged take on a classic guitar rock song. It's the latest feature of the band's upcoming debut album It Goes On, out August 21 via Island Records.
"Pin Up Boys" comes with an official music video, directed by SNL UK's Jack Shep. Watch/listen to the new track below:
Musing on the struggles of self-control, the new track broils with noise, exploding into sound on the chorus before simmering down into a placid groove in the verses. "'Pin Up Boys' was written a year and a half ago using an acoustic guitar, a drum machine sample pad and some screwdrivers as drumsticks," say Westside Cowboy on a press release. During live performances throughout the year, vocalist and guitarist Reuben Haycocks added, the song swelled in intensity. "It is by far the longest serving song on the album," he continued. "After realising this song was set in its ways, we thought the recording should be a somewhat faithful version of the live performance."
On the music video, Jack Shep aimed to feature Westside Cowboy's identity as live performers, which has become "so energetic and distinct." He adds, "They clearly have a mountainous future ahead of them, and it was awesome to work with young people at the precipice of starting something really special together." Body doubles, vaudeville stages, beaming spotlights, physical transformation — "we wanted to capture the band’s dynamism," he noted in his fantastical story.
Westside Cowboy will be promoting It Goes On later this fall with a headlining tour, traveling to cities across The UK and Europe. They also announced limited record store release shows in the UK around the record's release. Tickets are available now.
