Less than a year after releasing their debut album Party Time, the Brooklyn-based art punk band TVOD (aka "Television Overdose") have returned today to announce their follow-up, The Farm. The band has also shared the lead single "Rerun," as well as dates for an upcoming promotional tour.
"Rerun" comes with an animated music video, featuring hand-drawn animals directed by front man and lyricist Tyler Wright. Watch/listen to the new track below:
The new album takes its name from George Orwell's Animal Farm, whose iconic, blunt central adage "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" humorously tackles the hypocritical absurdity of our social reality. TVOD, just bouncing off their momentum from the danceable debauchery of Party Time, poke fun at the authority figures who've turned our world absurd, satirizing escapist fantasies and power trips while underscoring the collective unease sitting in the belly of the chaos. Rot is everywhere and unavoidable, but that won't stop people from trying to drown it out.
Songs like "Rerun," which bring out TVOD's penchant for art rock and dance music, give the listeners "Reasons for desperately needing to quit your day job, move away from your hometown, and start a fresh self-destructive spiral," according to the band via press release. "Change the goddamn channel."
The Farm was recorded at Nave Studios in Leeds, UK with Danny Blackburn of Adult DVD. "We loved his vibe, trusted his direction, and felt like we needed to remove ourselves from New York City," say TVOD, leaning into their record's self-aware, runaway spirit.
Tyler Wright designed and staged a diorama of Animal Farm for The Farm's official cover art. The photograph of the rural scene was taken by Briana Balducci.
TVOD will be going on tour later this summer to promote The Farm, heading to cities across Europe and The UK beginning this June and lasting until September. Tickets are available now.
