Today, the Toronto-based noise band Hot Garbage have shared a new single, "SPUN." The standalone track comes with a trippy, fantastical music video directed by band member Dylan Gamble and starring Sook-Yin Lee.
Watch/listen to "SPUN" below:
Inspired by the buzzing and writhing of insects, the proto-noise track features droning guitars, jittering drums, and a fuzzy bass running through it. The song itself takes on a narrative form, taking the listener through the day-in-the-life of a bug. Hot Garbage note:
"In the dead of Winter, a hibernating bug ventures down a heating vent, only to find itself stuck outside on the frozen streets of Toronto. Crawling across icy cement and flying atop the brutalist skyline, it explores the strange city. After a reflective moment in the park, it flies into the night, buzzing through the dark medieval corridors of the Old City. As the snow comes crashing down, it makes a startling encounter....The buzzing harmonics of the guitar mirror the sketchy inner dialogue of the insect, while the lyrics remind it of the short time it has left."
The accompanying music video was directed by Gamble, and aside from Sook-Yin Lee's portrayal of the song's protagonist, it also features her hand-drawn animations.
"SPUN" is out now via Mothland.
