It's arguable that Taylor Swift is the most famous person alive. Today, she's getting married to Kansas City Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce in what many have dubbed "America's royal wedding." The two began dating in 2023 after Kelce asked her out via his New Heights football podcast, and they got engaged last summer around the time Swift's most recent album was announced (via the same podcast).
The wedding comes alongside two other major American celebrations nearby, with the country's semiquincentennial happening Saturday, as well as the Brazil v. Norway FIFA World Cup match in New Jersey on Sunday.
While most information is locked behind iron-clad NDAs, here's all we know about the wedding so far.
The following run-of-show was obtained by The Associated Press from a city permit. The 1,000 attendee ceremony and reception (the "Event" detailed below) will run from 5pm tonight, July 3rd, until 4am on July 4th.
According to that same report, "beginning on Friday afternoon, several blocks surrounding the arena will be off-limits to vehicles and partially closed to pedestrians," and "access to Penn Station — the busiest rail hub in the U.S., sitting directly below the arena — will be heavily restricted, with transit users urged to use a separate entrance further from the venue."
While not affecting the area to the same scale, the street closures pose a similar impact to that of President Trump's attendance at game 3 of the NBA finals. Local businesses fear the event will either force temporary closures or heavily reduce foot traffic during what would be an otherwise busy holiday weekend.
With the spectacle of this event being controversy-prone by nature, Swift and Kelce announced $26 million in donations to various charities to potentially offset some of the criticisms that will ultimately be levied towards them this weekend.
This didn't stop professional figure skater and community activist Marni Halasa from protesting in front of MSG. Halasa was seen wearing a sequin bodysuit meant to mimic Swift's tour outfits and a boa made of fake $100 bills. "This wedding is gonna cost bazillions, and, you know, most Americans don’t even have $400 for an emergency,” she told a Times reporter outside the venue.
Setup for the event began Wednesday and continued into Thursday, with trucks of dinner ingredients and wedding décor were spotted as a fleet of forklifts and dollies loaded into the arena.

The 100-guest rehearsal dinner occurred Thursday night, with close confidants of Swift like Selena Gomez and Lena Dunham in attendance. Even with the decade's most intense heat wave raging through the east coast, droves of fans still decided to congregate outside the venue to try to catch a glimpse of the action. Several have also posted outside of Swift's residence in TriBeCa to celebrate the occasion.
This level of fan attendance was to be expected, and was likely quelled a bit due to the heat wave. Regardless, police presence remains heavy outside MSG.
According to Variety, "A-listers, executives and musicians have been 'flying blind' with minimal details on the wedding’s theme or dress code. Many were told to be in New York City by the morning of July 3 and await further details, three sources said. Some bold names have asked their stylists to pull evening looks from major designer showrooms with no guidance on the vibe of the event." According to multiple reports, it seems a black tie dress code has been put in place.
According to a New York Times report, a man working the event has revealed that legendary musicians Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney will be performing with Swift at the reception Friday night. Swift reportedly participated in a soundcheck with Nicks earlier Friday afternoon. Nicks has been a mentor of Swift since their performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards, so this suspected performance comes as no surprise.
The Empire State Building, which has a history of joining in on marketing efforts for Swift, will be lighting up in sparkly blue in celebration of the wedding. Why that color? Nobody seems to really know.
