Charli XCX opens up about Indian heritage on new podcast appearance

Charli XCX has an LP coming up (Music, Fashion, Film, slated to be released on July 24) and, judging from its already-released songs, the project has a healthy dose of the introspective lyricism that helped cement its predecessor, Brat, as an instant smash.

Charli XCX, legally known as Charlotte Emma Aitchison, discussed her biracial background on a fresh episode of the Nicky At Night podcast hosted by Nicky Reardon. A lyric on recent single "SS26" mentions that her "...heritage could give me quite the USP" (Unique Selling Proposition).

"I feel like there is this world where I could really play that up a lot," the singer explained. "It doesn’t come natural to me, probably because of the way that I engage with being a mixed person.

"I didn't really feel like I belonged in either side of my family," she added, noting that she hung out with the Indian side of her family on weekends while attending "school with a bunch of white girls." Charli XCX was raised in the English county of Essex by a Scottish father and Indian mother.
