Indie rock yarn spinners The Decemberists are back with a second entry in their live album series. Live Home Library Vol. 2 is out September 25 via Youth and Beauty Brigade. Recorded in April 2017 at Brooklyn Steel, the set was mixed by Tucker Martine, who has produced, engineered, and/or mixed several of the band's records, such as The Crane Wife, The King is Dead, and their most recent LP, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.
Listen to the live album's first single, "O Valenica" (from The Crane Wife) below:
The album – which will initially be a vinyl-exclusive release – culls together cuts from across a 3-night residency from April 17-19, and finds the band spelunking their entire discography from their inception up to 2017. It includes album favorites like "The Crane Wife 3" and "Los Angeles, I'm Yours" alongside deeper cuts like "Shiny" and "The Tain Pt. I-V."
“These shows, to my ears, are the band at its very best with this lineup,” writes Colin Meloy in the album’s liner notes. “There’s a looseness, here, a kind of swaggery suredness.”
In other tangentially-related news, frontman Colin Meloy's 2011 children's book Wildwood has been adapted into a feature film from animation studio Laika (responsible for the likes of Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings). The film releases October 23.
