American publishing house Farrar, Straus, and Giroux (FSG) have shared news of the December 1 release of Weird Era, a new memoir by Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber that promises to tell the story of how "the most trusted voice in music" changed the industry forever, as well as Schreiber's "own personal journey" over the past 30 years and "the inside story" of the brand's acquisition by Condé Nast in 2015. Pre-order here.

Writing on Instagram, Schreiber says:

"Writing this book was one of the greatest creative challenges of my life. For 20+ years, my work was about analyzing the art and ambitions of others, so it was rewarding (if surreal!) to bring that same critical lens to my own story. I did a lot of digital archaeology to get it right, mining old hard drives to cross-reference decades of emails, AIM chats, internal message board threads, and audio tapes from the Pitchfork archives. The result is as much a nostalgia trip as a look behind the curtain at how Pitchfork became the force it did. I’m excited to share it with the world."

Schreiber has also launched a new Substack, Ethernet.fm, which he describes as "an extension of my archives and a place to revisit (and re-evaluate) the music Pitchfork covered" as well as exploring new music and more.
