Phoebe Bridgers joined Bright Eyes onstage at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on Monday night to perform “Lua,” from 2005’s I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning. You can watch the fan-captured video here:
Bridgers sang the first verse next to Conor Oberst, who took the second, and the two joined together on the chorus, with Bridgers harmonizing. After a trumpet solo, Oberst and Bridgers traded verses once more and closed out the song together.
“Lua” was originally performed solo by Oberst, but he later recorded it as a duet with Gillian Welch for the 2009 benefit compilation Dark Was the Night. Oberst and Bridgers formed the duo Better Oblivion Community Center in 2019 and released one self-titled album that year. They reunited at one of Oberst’s shows in Los Angeles in 2024, where they performed “Lua,” “My City,” and “Double Life.”
Both artists happened to be on tour in Nashville this week. On Sunday at her own show at Bridgestone Arena, Bridgers played the Better Oblivion Community Center song “Chesapeake” for the first time in three years, as a duet with collaborator Christian Lee Hutson. She has a handful of tour dates remaining in support of her new album, Lost Weekend. Meanwhile, Bright Eyes are closing out their fall tour with support from Lullaby From the Working Class, with shows still to come in New Orleans, Austin, Dallas, Kansas City, and St. Louis.
