Margo Price shares two covers from new protest song-inspired LP 'Days of Unrest'

This coming July 4 is a special one as it marks the United States' 250th year as an independent nation. Obviously, with criminal-in-chief Donald Trump proving to be an increasingly embarrassing liability, the official celebrations so far have been a hot, egomaniacal mess, but the event is not a total bummer as here comes country rebel Margo Price with Days of Unrest, a whole new LP inspired by classic protest songs.

Out this Friday (July 3), Days of Unrest is previewed today by a pair of covers in the shape of Blaze Foley's "Oval Room" and Woody Guthrie's "Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)," featuring Joan Baez and Memphis Mariachi. Price kicks off her US summer tour the same day.

Other covers on the record include last year's take on Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm," a Billy Swan-featuring gender-swapped version of "Long Haired Country Boy" by the Charlie Daniels Band, what seems to be a reworking of "Can't Stand Still" by her former band Buffalo Clover, and Price's nod to Spanish folk song "De Colores," a recent staple of her live shows and long associated with the United Farm Workers movement that she has so vocally supported over the years.
