Kneecap announce sophomore album, 'Fenian', hear the single "Liars Tale"

The Belfast boys are back! Today, the Irish rap trio Kneecap announced that they would be releasing their third album, Fenian, on April 24 via Heavenly Recordings. "Inspired by, and proudly named 'Fenian', who were warriors in Irish folklore, and later a derogatory term for the Irish," they wrote in their announcement. "Now we're using it to name everyone speaking truth to power."

Kneecap also premiered the music video for their leading single, "Liar's Tale". They premiered the track on BBC Radio 1 with Jack Sanders. Watch/listen to it below:

"The Paddies are back," Kneecap write, announcing their return to the studio since 2024's Fine Art.

Fenian is described as a "considered response" to all the censorship and legal backlash the band faced last year, per their announcement.

As a very brief recap of a long, arguably purposefully drawn-out court battle, the UK government charged Kneecap's Mo Chara (aka Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) with violations of the UK Terrorism Act, based on a circulating video where the singer allegedly led pro-Hezbollah chants and waved the militant group's flag at a gig. Following the accusations, the rapper clarified that he does not support any terrorist organization, and that the the flag-waving was "a joke," per The Guardian.

During this summer, multiple media organizations and governments proceeded to censor the band in multiple ways. To name just a few, the BBC refused to livestream their Glastonbury performance and only uploaded an edited version, Scotland's TRNSMT dropped them from the lineup, the US revoked their visas, Mo Chara's postponed court hearing forced them to cancel their North American fall tour, and Canada banned them from entering the country.

Mo Chara's charges had been officially dropped on September 26, 2025, as courts ruled the charges were brought "unlawfully," per NME. (The UK government is appealling the decision, according to the BBC.) In response, the band released "No Comment", a club track that re-centers all the discourse around the principle issue Kneecap want to highlight: the freedom of Palestine and end to the genocide.

"They tried to stop us by branding Kneecap 'terrorists', with cancellations, with statements from the Prime Minister himself," said Kneecap in their album announcement. "We had all the motivation we needed…this isn't a swift reaction, but a considered response to those that tried to silence us. And failed."
