Katy Perry goes to space!

Earlier this morning, pop artist Katy Perry reached a new level of (literal) stardom: she went to space!

Traveling with an all-female crew — former NASA scientist Aisha Bow, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, and journalist Lauren Sánchez (also Amazon Founder/Blue Origin's CEO Jeff Bezos' current partner) — Katy Perry launched into space at 9:30 am ET from Blue Origin's Launch Site One in Van Horn, Texas. The rocket flew 65 miles into space, allowing for a few minutes of weightlessness, before sending the capsule pod back down. The whole experience lasted 10 minutes and 21 seconds, according to Newsweek.

"I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give, and how loved you are until the day you launch," Perry said after touching back down, as printed in Newsweek.

The singer-songwriter first announced she was joining the NS-31 space mission on March 27. The launch occurred a week before the commencement of her Lifetimes world tour, which promotes the release of recent, futuristic/space-inspired record 143, on April 23.

"I'm really excited about the engineering of it all," Perry told AP News last week when asked how she was preparing for the flight. "I'm excited to learn more about STEM and just the math about what it takes to accomplish this type of thing." The pop star then admitted she prepared for the flight by listening to Cosmos by Carl Sagan and "reading a book on string theory."

"I've always been interested in astrophysics and...astronomy and astrology and the stars!" she remarked. "It'll be exciting to see [the stars] twinkle from that site!"

The flight also reportedly carried much symbolism for Perry. Yesterday, she posted a vlog to her social media accounts talking about the "total confirmations" from the universe. The feather on the outside of the capsule reminded her of her mother, who has called her "feather" since childhood. She also noted that the capsule she'd be in was called "Tortoise," which also shocked her. "The most energetic wave just shot through my body...My mom calls me two nicknames: 'Feather' and 'Tortoise,'" she said. "There are no coincidences, and I'm just so grateful for these confirmations...Something bigger than me is steering the ship!"

This was the eleventh commerical space flight hosted by Bezos' Blue Origin, a private rocket company he founded in 2000. Newsweek reported that Bezos declined to comment on the cost of mission NS-31, as well as the price each crew member paid to join the flight.

After the capsule safely touched ground, the crew members emerged from their pods, with Sánchez leading the pack. Perry quickly followed, running to the ground and kissing it. "Let me just appreciate the ground for just a second," she jokes, as reported in USA Today. She also held up a tiny daisy flower, a symbol of her daughter Daisy Bloom, she brought with her for the flight.
