Fievel is Glauque announces new album 'Rong Weicknes', shares single "As Above, So Below"

Fievel is Glauque, the prog-pop duo of Belgian singer Ma Clément and prolific New York multi-instrumentalist Zach Phillips, released “As Above, So Below” as the first single from their upcoming third album Rong Weicknes, out on Fat Possum on Oct. 25. Watch the video here:

The title Rong Weicknes is a playful misspelling of "wrong weakness," in reference to St. Paul’s adage "when I am weak, then I am strong."

“As Above, So Below” is a quotation from the 9th-century hermetic text The Emerald Tablet, perhaps best-known to music nerds for lending its name to Brazilian pop star Jorge Ben’s 1974 classic A Tábua de Esmeralda.

The video, directed by John Agresta, stars Clément in a triple role as an angel, a devil, and a yellow-clad woman twirling through a sumptuous garden. Phillips cites “the Sound of Music, Ma spinning in a field, ‘90s ‘positivity,’ [and] Dido” as inspiration for the clip.

Fievel is Glauque became a Bandcamp phenomenon in 2020 with God’s Trashmen Sent to Right the Mess, featuring 20 songs whose brief length and crude recording quality belied their technical virtuosity and harmonic eccentricity.

God’s Trashmen and its acclaimed follow-up Flaming Swords were both recorded in a single day after plentiful rehearsal. Rong Weicknes, their first for former blues label turned indie stalwart Fat Possum, was recorded over a week at the Outlier Inn in upstate New York in late July and early August 2023.

Rong Weicknes is out October 25 via Fat Possum. Pre-order it here.
