Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” just made chart history on the Billboard Hot 100, logging it’s 20th week at No. 1 on the chart, making it only the second song in the chart’s 68-year history to spend 20 weeks atop the ranking, and also making it the first non-holiday song to ever do it. 

The track passed Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, both of which topped out at 19 weeks. The only song left standing above it is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has racked up 22 weeks at No. 1 across the past seven years, with a handful of those weeks typically added back on every December when the song returns to the chart for the holidays. If “Choosin’ Texas” stays aloft, it could tie or pass that record within a matter of weeks; some chart forecasters are even projecting a run as long as 26 weeks. 

“Choosin’ Texas” first reached No. 1 on February 14, then bounced in and out of the top spot several times before returning for good on July 4. It has now held the position for 10 straight weeks. According to Billboard, the song moved 24.2 million official streams, pulled in 56.8 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 7,000 copies in the United States for the tracking week of August 21-27. 

The song is the lead single from Langley’s sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in its first week. That gave Langley the rare distinction of holding the No. 1 song and No.1 album simultaneously, a feat only one other woman in history has pulled off with a country album, when Taylor Swift topped both charts with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” in 2021. 

Speculation is also building around a possible “Choosin’ Texas” remix featuring Drake, whose name has been linked to Langley’s since he showed up at one of her Arkansas tour stops last month. 

At 27 years old, the Alabama-born singer has turned “Choosin’ Texas” into the biggest country hit the Hot 100 has ever seen, and the chart doesn’t look ready to let her go anytime soon.
