Burning Man attendee passes away after "medical emergency"

A man passed away at the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock City, Nevada, on Thursday. The attendee, who was in his mid-50s, was transported to an on-site emergency care center after receiving lifesaving measures due to a "medical emergency."

The man's official cause of death has not yet been revealed. The festival said in a statement released on its website:

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, and those affected by this loss. The safety and well-being of our community and staff remain our highest priority."

The man's death comes on the same day that festival organizers made the decision to close the entrance and exit gates due to severe weather. Severe wind and rain have plagued the event over the past few days, causing delays at both the airport and festival entry.

During last year's iteration of the event, Vadim Kruglov, 37, was stabbed in the neck in an alleged homicide. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
