The Flaming Lips and New Fumes- "Girl, You Are So Weird" (NSFW)

As an experimental music fan, I’m sort of afraid to admit that the Flaming Lips sometimes take things a bit too far for me. Is the above track one of those times? No, of course not. For me, it’s actually an example of a time when Wayne and company’s penchant for odd musical ideas mixes with their pop sensibilities for something that sounds refreshingly different, but accessible and catchy.

I love the way the hook explodes on some awkwardly played keyboards over the verse. Not only does the track transition from loud to soft, but from loose to tight in a matter of seconds. Well, maybe even faster than seconds.

Either way, you maybe wondering if this track is on the forthcoming Flaming Lips album that is slated for a Record Store Day release, the Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. While this track is a collaboration with New Fumes, this track is not on there. Another New Fumes collaboration is on the release, though.

Where “Girl, You Are So Weird” will end up, I’m not sure. But I’m fine with a NSFW music video for now.

What do you think?
