Romare- "The Blues (It Began in Africa)"

With a spunky house beat and busy footwork snares and claps, electronic music producer Romare builds a solid backdrop for a slew of samples related to African music. I say related because some of the clips here, and some aren’t. There’s a nice flute riff here, and a female vocalist as well, but that is about it for cuts with a clear musical intent.

Many of the snippets throughout this four-minute banger are taken from interviews and speeches. Pieces of field recordings made it on here as well. And considering how persistent this track is in chasing after the sounds of African culture, it should be no surprise the EP its from has a bit of a concept based around it. The title: Meditations on Afrocentrism EP. It’s out now on Black Acre.
