Westside Gunn has announced a surprise project he aims to release before the highly awaited last entry to the Flygod Is An Awesome God trilogy.
In a video posted on X/Twitter and Instagram on Sunday, 18 August, the camera tilts up to the rapper’s face as he says:
this [is] the look of a man that just made an album in a day, […] I wanted to see if I still had it, [...] [I'm] not even waiting, I want to drop this [album] ASAP, I’ll figure what I got to do, [and] how I got to do it. Whatever distribution, I want this out ASAP.
The Griselda Records co-founder was in a Paris studio ready “to mix and master my album FLYGOD IS AN AWESOME GOD 3.” He also “was waiting for my files, so I had played some beats and caught a vibe told him load it and made a joint, then made another joint and then made another joint and now 24hrs later i made a new project.”
In the Instagram post he continues with much enthusiasm, “I told y’all I was thinking about dropping a project even before the album, I been doing so much wrestling and Fashion im ready to get back on my WSG SHÌT!!!!!! 🦂🐐.”
Both X/Twitter and Instagram posts start with the headline “STILL PRAYING!!!!!!!!!", hinting at a title for this surprise project. This possibility is further confirmed when a fan commented “Ok. So you dropping 'Still Praying' next week then the album in october. Got it💪🏽.” To which the rapper responded “in a perfect world that’s wat I would love 🤲🏽.” This works as a rough estimation to when both projects release if all goes according to what Gunn desires.
The original Flygod Is An Awesome God was released on 5 July 2019, with a follow up a year later on 3 July. He first teased about the possibility of doing a third entry two years ago an interview with Anthony Fantano, “I still got Flygod is An Awesome God, I got part one and two so if I was going to do anything else I’d make a third one and make it a trilogy.” He made an official announcement back in July:

A few weeks ago, Gunn went on X/Twitter to hype the third installment of the trilogy, claiming "MY ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE AND AOTY."

His latest album, And Then You Pray for Me, released 13 October 2023, it was labeled as his last meticulously done album, as Gunn himself told Rolling Stone in October:
"[This is] going to be the last album where I take the time to say ‘this is an album,’ When I was doing the Hitler Wears Hermes series, I was doing all them projects like mixtapes. I was recording the whole shit in two, three days. This album was pressure to me. I’m testing the waters on a few different things, but it’s all me. It’s not like I’m going out of the box with it or I’m not being me. I’m still me, it’s just kind of a different sound. But at the same time, I don’t know how long I want to ride for. I got so much other things I got going on now in my life that’s different. And I have new artists that I also want to break that are super dope. And I know they need my attention because [they] the ones that need the development."
