The Manchester-based rock quartet Westside Cowboy are new to the scene, only having one EP, This Better Be Something Great, released on August 8 via Heist or Hit/Nice Swan. Yet, the self-proclaimed 'Brit-icana' band ("British Americana") has already finished their next project. They will release their second EP, So Much Country 'Till We Get There, on January 16 via Island/Imprint Adventure Recordings.
Westside Cowboy also shared the leading single "Don't Throw Rocks", recorded and produced with Loren Humphreys (Cameron Winter, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys). They also made an accompanying music video, directed by Ginny Davies. Watch/listen to it below:
Of the new track, the band says: "Jimmy [Bradbury]ʼs lyrics on this deal a lot in time and change, and how it, more often than not, moves out of our control and without niceties." Trying to match this energy with the energetic rigor of the punk instrumentals, they added, "we wanted to add a new gear, to increase the intensity until it couldnʼt be held onto anymore." Westside Cowboy concluded that choosing "Don't Throw Rocks" as the first single felt "natural."
For their upcoming EP, the band noted that their main drive to write and perform music is to bring community together. "We want to make music for everyone and we donʼt want it to feel like you can only like our band if you live in a cool city with a good record store, around the corner from a cool venue,” says Paddy Murphy. "Like, music that actual people can enjoy: our parents, our grandparents, young people too – we were all kids once, getting into music for the first time, and we wanna have something for everyone to enjoy. Thereʼs no barrier to entry."
Westisde Cowboy are currently on tour supporting Black Country, New Road, and they will embark on a run of headline gigs next months, traveling to cities in the UK, Europe, and The United States. (They will only be performing in New York City and Los Angeles for now.) Tickets are available now.
