Wendy Eisenberg, a New York-based singer-songwriter and guitarist, returns today, six months after their self-titled album, with a surprise companion release, Wweennddyy Eeiisseennbbeerrgg, via Joyful Noise Recordings.

The 46-minute release reimagines “Meaning Business” and “The Walls,” allowing both songs to take on new forms while showcasing Eisenberg’s improvisation. Listen below:

Describing their new release, Eisenberg recalls their jazz training and the desire to hear their material in different ways. With their versatility across genres ranging from jazz and metal to country and ambient music, musicians Trevor Dunn, Mari Rubio, and Ryan Sawyer helped the New York artist reimagine their songs.

In a press release, Eisenberg says of the songs:

“Subjecting these two songs, songs that are explicitly about memory, to a compositional process explicitly about length, lets me perceive the time in each song differently. In these versions, the form is maintained but sections elide, become solos, become worlds. Returning to the chorus feels different after fifteen minutes than it does after a minute and a half. Maybe it’s a Cagean imposition, making a pop song stay interesting after 20 minutes. I can justify it however, forever. I just want to hear the band play on."

Wweennddyy Eeiisseennbbeerrgg is out now. Listen here.
