"Weird Al" Yankovic turned down lucrative AI commercial

"Weird Al" Yankovic has been the face of comedic and parody music for decades, but he refuses to be the face of AI.

As trendy artificial intelligence has exploded over the past few years, more than a couple of people have made "Weird AI" jokes with Yankovic in mind. Turns out he's for mankind over machinery, turning down a considerable sum for an AI-promoting commercial.

"I was offered this commercial before the tour," Yankovic told Syracuse. I'm not going to mention any names, but they told me it was for a business. It was business software that would increase productivity. And they offered me a nice pile of money.

"A week before we’re supposed to shoot it, I find out, oh [...] it's AI. And I thought, 'Oh no, I can’t be the poster boy for AI, forget it.' So I felt bad about kind of pulling out at the last minute. But yeah, I'm not down with that."

While we're not supposed to editorialize news stories here at TND, hell yeah. Catch Yankovic right now on his "Bigger & Weirder" run across the United States.
