Swedish noise popper Weatherday (also known mononymously as Sputnik) is gearing up for a brand new album. Hornet Disaster is out March 19 via Topshelf, and with the announcement comes two brand new singles: "Heartbeats" and "Angel".
Listen to both below:
The new album from the one-person band is reportedly heavily inspired by – you guessed it – hornets. The press release accompanying the announcement reads:
"The movement, color, and form of hornets are meticulously threaded throughout the album’s nineteen song tracklist, with hectic melody and unpredictable turns giving way to various forays."
Those forays include using a Renaissance flute here, singing entirely in Sweidsh (for the first time) there, and even some folktronica sprinkled in. In an interview with Stereogum, Sputnik indicated that this record is supposed to be their poppy album, going on to say that "Come In is the happy album. This is the sad one."
Weatherday's debut album, Come In, was released back in 2019. Since then, they've also released a collaborative projects with Asian Glow, as well as one with Oolong, Michael Cera Palin, and Camp Trash.
