Voletta Wallace, the mother of Christopher Wallace, a.k.a The Notorious B.I.G. has died today, February 21, according to a post from her Instagram. Wallace was 72 years old and in hospice care when she died, according to the Monroe County Coroner.
Since Biggie’s death in 1997, Wallace has been managing his estate and promoting his legacy. Her Instagram page was devoted to celebrating his accomplishments and promoting news and updates on his music. Biggie’s estate will pass on to his two children, T'yanna Wallace and C.J. Wallace.
Wallace, originally from Jamaica, moved to Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a pre-school teacher. In 1972 she gave birth to her only child, Christopher Wallace, who would go on to become The Notorious B.I.G.
