Visible Cloaks reimagine "Thinking" and "Shapes" as one song in extended single

Visible Cloaks — the experimental ambient project of Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile — are back today with a new single, "Thinking / Shapes". Originally mapped as two separate tracks off their forthcoming record Paradessence (out May 22 via RVNG Intl.), the songs are seamlessly woven together in this new, extended cut.

"Thinking / Shapes" comes with a visualizer made by Doran and grade eterna, a London-based photogrammertrist who 3D scanned environmental scenes to create digital reproductions. Watch/listen to it below:

Visible Cloaks first developed "Thinking / Shapes" with artists Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano during their 2019 world tour promoting their collaborative album, serenitatem. Contrasting VC's usual instrumental tracks, "Thinking" features an original poem written by Ojima, spoken in Japanese by an autotuned Shibano, then translated and repeated by the French artist Félicia Atkinson.

This cut then translates to the twinkling, synthentic horns-led second act, or "Shapes". On the official tracklist, this section is sequenced first, offering a suspended, abstract pulsing of notes before leading into the spoken-word poetry.

"Thinking / Shapes" follows the release of Visible Cloaks' last single, "Disque".

The duo also announced a brief run of tours in the US later this summer. They'll be playing in venues in California and New York City throughout June. Tickets are available now.

Tour dates:

06/04 Los Angeles, CA @ 2220 Arts + Archives
06/06 Brooklyn, NY @ Public Records
06/12 San Francisco, CA @ Grey Area
