Today, prolific singer-songwriter Ty Segall has shared a new single, "Possession", which is the title track of his upcoming record, released on May 30 via Drag City.

Possession, Segall's sixteenth studio album, was co-written with filmmaker and longtime collaborator Matt Yoka. The new record is a collection of rock fables inspired by the frontier and American short stories, with the leading single "Fantastic Tomb" spinning Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" into a slightly more optimistic fable.

The titular track "Possession" reimagines a different story close to American literary and cultural tradition: the Salem Witch Trials. "A bible placed beside the butter / by a farmer of misfortune in the winter," he sings, reciting lyrics written entirely by Yoka. Over a cinematic instrumental, Segall depicts the growing supersition in the town, spiraling into "the villagers' obsession" with demonic possession.

Tomorrow, Segall also begins an extensive tour across the US, travelling to cities by himself, with friends, with Primus as their opening act, and finally with his band for a brief headlining tour beginning in October. Tickets are on sale now; check out the dates below:
