Beyoncé takes a stance by prohibiting Donald Trump from using her song "Freedom", the anthem of the Harris-Waltz campaign, in his campaign video.
On Tuesday, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung posted a clip on X showing the former president landing in Michigan, with the backdrop of the Lemonade track. The video remained on social media until Wednesday when the artist threatened a cease-and-desist to the Republican nominee over unauthorized use of the song.
On the other hand, Beyoncé approved the usage of the song by the Kamala Harris campaign after her nomination in July. The Democratic Party has since featured the song in her campaign launch and an ad featuring actor Jeffrey Wright's soulful narration to kick off the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
On the last night of the convention, although Queen Bey did not perform as rumored, "Freedom" rang loud and clear as Harris accepted her nomination in front of thousands of supporters in Chicago.
This isn't Trump's first rodeo with copyright infringement– the former President has faced legal charges by Isaac Hayes after his unauthorized use of "Hold On, I'm Coming" just last week. Countless musicians such as Céline Dion, Sinéad O'Connor, and the Village People have pushed back on his illegal use of intellectual properties in campaign rallies and ads.
