Earlier today, British singer-songwriter Tom Odell announced his seventh studio album A Wonderful Life, due for release on September 5 via UROK. He also shared the first single, "Don’t Cry, Put Your Head On My Shoulder". today.

Odell's newest album attempts to address the feelings of despair in modern times. Inspired partly by the news cycle, he commented via press release that he wanted to capture "the sense, almost every week, that the world is ending in some capacity — which it is, for some people.” Yet, as seen by his first single, he still tries to find hope. He sings in the chorus:

"Don't cry, put your head on my shoulder / Take all the time that you need / God knows / I'm gonna show you / It's never as bad as it seems."

A Wonderful Life was written in a period of approximately nine months, as Odell worked on the lyrics while touring across the UK and Europe. The music, furthermore, was all recorded live and together, producing a "bleeding" sound reminiscent of Radiohead.

To promote the new record, Tom Odell will be going on tours across the US, UK, and Europe. After his headlining European tour this fall — where Chance Peña, David Kushner, Etta Marcus, and more will join — he will be supporting Billie Eilish on the Hit Me Hard and Soft tour for select European dates. He will also be travelling with The Lumineers on the Automatic world tour for a few dated in the US. While in North America, Odell will also embark on a run of performances at small venues.
