Tom Morello's mother, Mary, dies at 102

Outside of his flashy guitar work in Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello is best known for his political activism. That runs in the family – his mother, Mary, a former high school teacher, stood up for righteous causes throughout her life. She has now passed away at the age of 102.

In a 2021 New York Times essay, Tom spoke of Mary, a single parent, and her work spanning from the Great Depression to the present. Mary helped drive efforts to assist the unhoused, those affected by conflict, and people who grappled with addiction.

On the music front, Mary founded Parents for Rock and Rap, something of an anti-PMRC. She also introduced Rage Against the Machine as "the best band in the fucking universe" prior to their 1994 set at Pinkpop. Furthermore, Mary appeared with her son on his SiriusXM radio program, One Man Revolution, closer to her passing.

Tom revealed news of Mary's death on July 12 in the post below.
