Today, Matt Berninger—frontman, lyricist, and lead vocalist of indie rock band The National—announced his sophomore record Get Sunk. His solo album will be released on May 30 via Book/Concord Records, according to Paste.
To celebrate the announcement, Berninger also released the first single "Bonnet of Pins," a guitar-heavy track whose lyrics explore the day-to-day struggles of life. It features the singer-songwriter's "knack for world-building, pointing to the tiny details that make it all palpable,” according to a statement provided in NME.

Get Sunk is the long-anticipated follow-up to Berninger's first solo record, Serpentine Prison, which was released in 2020. The National front man noted that his new album comes from a place of intense writer's block in 2020, saying, "Our hearts are like old wells filled with pennies and worms," as reported by Uproxx. "I can’t resist going down to the bottom of mine to see what else is there. But sometimes you can get yourself stuck.”
Nature will also be a big theme for the new album. According to a press released mentioned in Uproxx, Berninger felt inspired by "the flora and fauna of his new home in Connecticut after years living in Los Angeles.”
