Today, SXSW ('South by Southwest') revealed the lineup for their annual music festival, bringing over 240 artists to Austin, TX on March 7-15. The music festival is only part of SXSW's larger convention, which aims to allow people across many industries to network, host workshops, and attend panel discussions.
The artists featured in this massive lineup represent a diverse range of genre, nationality, style, and fame. Jack's Mannequin, Sunflower Bean, and Holy Fuck will be making a return to SXSW this year, according to the festival's announcement. Latin pop artists SofÃa Reyes, La Cendejas, and Amantes Del Futuro will also attend, sharing stages with singers from around the world. The full lineup, as well as the performance schedule, can be accessed on the SXSW website.
Last year, over 100 artists pulled themselves from the SXSW lineup due to the festival's sponsorship deals with the US army and weapons manufacturing companies, especially in the wake of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and war in Gaza, as reported by The Hill. Some artists chose to put on an 'Anti-SXSW' fest to protest the festival's financial support of the US military, according to the BBC. Other notable groups like Kneecap—vocal defendants of Palestine in the wake of the war in Gaza—boycotted the event altogether. Posting a statement in the colors of the Palestinian flag, the Irish band said, "The decision to mix the arts with the military and weapons companies is unforgivable," and that playing unofficial events would still indirectly contribute to SXSW.
SXSW no longer accepts sponsorships from the US military and weapons manufacturers, and the 2025 festival is allegedly not associated with these industries. After the 2024 boycott, the convention released a short statement addressing the crticism. They wrote, "After careful consideration, we are revising our sponsorship model. As a result, the US Army, and companies who engage in weapons manufacturing, will not be sponsors of SXSW 2025."
People can now register to attend the SXSW festival on its official website. The exclusive music pass is currently priced at $845 if bought online, with a walk-up rate of $995. The music pass gives access to the festival and all music events— including workshops and panel discussion—and it provides two press passes per day.
