Subsonic Eye embrace confusion on new single "Not Linear"

Singaporean noise-pop band Subsonic Eye are back with a new song, "Not Linear", which forms one half of a split 7" shared with Jakarta-based four-piece Bedchamber. Collectively titled Balancing Act, the single lands on 28 October as a joint release between Kolibri Records and Big Romantic Records.

Formed in 2015 while still in school, Subsonic Eye have been on a winning streak ever since, with their most recent album, 2023's All Around You, landing on several year-end best-of lists. The self-produced "Not Linear" picks up where that "guitar music" record left off, building to a rowdy climax of raw confusion.

A video for the track also dropped today. Directed by 510haven and Subsonic Eye's Sam Venditti, it's shot from the perspective of a remote-controlled car that escapes from a hobby store and wheels around the streets of Singapore, slowly becoming more frenzied, before finding peace alone on a sandy beach. "Towering figures and inescapable circumstances meet him along the way," say Subsonic Eye. "Reflecting our stifling modern lives, the little car amplifies what it’s like to feel small."
