Ukrainian heavy psych veterans Stoned Jesus are back with their seventh studio album Songs to Moon, arriving Friday via Season of Mist. But why wait? Today, TND is exclusively premiering all seven tracks from the band's latest cosmic excursion.
Listen below:
Formed in Kyiv in 2009 as a solo project of guitarist and vocalist Igor Sydorenko, Stoned Jesus have spent the better part of two decades navigating the murky waters between doom metal, psychedelic rock and progressive experimentation.
The record serves as the second chapter in the band's planned Songs to... trilogy, while decidedly taking a darker turn. Produced by Sydorenko, recorded by Andy Rosczyk, and mixed and mastered by Karl Daniel Lidén, Songs to Moon sees the band at its most vulnerable, trading towering riffs and infectious choruses for a heavy dose of haunting melodies and brooding atmospherics.
Frontman Igor Sydorenko says:
“We started The Songs trilogy last year with Songs to Sun, which is a loud and heavy album that’s big on choruses and meaty riffs. While still heavy and catchy, Songs to Moon follows a similar trajectory to Led Zeppelin III, Opeth’s Damnation or Jar of Flies by Alice In Chains. The songs are recognizably Stoned Jesus, but they are bolder, more haunting and introspective than anything we’ve done before.”
The band also currently has one show slated for October in France. Check that out below.
