David Kaff, who played the ever-stoic keyboardist Viv Savage in the 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap, has died at the age of 79. While best known for his role in the fictional metal band, Kaff was also an accomplished musician in real life.

In the 1970s, he was a member of the British prog rock group Rare Bird, and more recently performed with Mutual of Alamesa’s Wild Kingdom. His band confirmed his passing, noting that Kaff died peacefully in his sleep on July 11.

“Have a good time, all the time.” - Viv Savage
