Rostam shares "Like A Spark", sets 'American Stories' release date

Today, Rostam shared "Like A Spark", the first single off his upcoming record, American Stories, out May 15 via his label, Mastor Projects. The singer-songwriter and producer (and former Vampire Weekender) also revealed the cover art and tracklist for his new album, as well as the dates for an upcoming tour.

Watch the visualizer/listen to "Like A Spark" below:

"Like A Spark" shies away from Rostam's earlier work on Half-Light (2017) and Changephobia (2021), trading the experimental pop production for an acoustic, folk rock sound. Airy and simple with lyrics as a call for liberation, whirling around the central hook, "Everybody / Wants you / Tied down easily except for me / I only ever wanted you to feel freed of it."

American Stories was first announced in November with a teaser trailer, which featured an aerial view of Rostam's once-base, New York City. He then began officially teasing the new LP with a brief tangent into his past: last month, the artist shared the original version of "Campus", his 2006 ode to his college dorm days originally on Vampire Weekend's self-titled debut.

The new record will feature collaborations with artists Amir Yaghmai (The Voidz) and Clairo, who first had Rostam as her producer on her breakout debut album, Immunity (2019).

Rostam also announced his American Stories promotional tour, set to begin this coming May in San Diego, CA. The North American leg will feature support from Zsela and Henry Solomon for select dates. He then will be travelling to the UK and Europe for a brief five-show run in September, and Bad Actor will join. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 13 at 10 am local time.
