Roger Daltrey hints at final U.S. solo tour: “One more for the road”

A year removed from The Who wrapping their North American farewell run, Roger Daltrey is heading back across the States for what sounds a lot like a final lap of his own. The singer has unveiled a new batch of solo U.S. dates under the banner The Great Night Out, and, if you listen closely, he’s hinting that this is to be the last time American audiences see him front and center on a solo tour.

The newly announced run kicks off this August and stretches into September, with presales launching Wednesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. local time before general on-sale begins Friday, May 15 through Ticketmaster.

If Daltrey’s 2024 Semi-Acoustic Tour was any indication, fans shouldn’t expect a nostalgia revue played strictly by the numbers. Those shows leaned into the emotional sweep of classic Who staples like “Baba O’Riley” and “Who Are You,” but they also dug deeper into the catalog, weaving in overlooked cuts and solo material with a looseness that felt more lived-in than legacy-act polished. Backing him once again will be musicians from the Who’s final touring lineup, along with several players who joined him on last year’s road trip.

“With my present lineup of nine musicians, I have this opportunity to see your beautiful country and enjoy the hospitality you have shown me over so many years,” Daltrey told Rolling Stone. “I’m always searching for different soundscapes to present the songs. It’s a lot of fun.”

At the same time, the Who are preparing to release Live at Eden Project, a concert document capturing Daltrey and Pete Townshend performing with the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra against the surreal backdrop of Cornwall’s Eden Project biomes. The album lands May 29 and promises a more cinematic take on the band’s catalog.

As for the future, Daltrey isn’t making any hard declarations just yet. But the tone has shifted.

“After finishing the Who’s final tour of the U.S., it’s time for me as a solo artist to possibly do the same,” Daltrey told Rolling Stone. “After touring solo with different bands of musicians for the last 17 years, a less grueling life becomes more attractive – I’ll see.”
