Storm Lilian caused havoc at UK festivals over the weekend, with Reading and Leeds Festivals, Creamfields in Cheshire, and London's All Points East all subjected to a plethora of delays and cancellations.
On Friday, heavy wind and rains forced organisers to close two of the stages at Leeds, which then remained unusable for the rest of the weekend. At Reading, conditions were a bit less dramatic, with all stages remaining open. But, by Sunday afternoon, there was at least one artist who was wishing they hadn't been.
Having pulled out of the Leeds event on Friday due to "dangerous" conditions, Renée Rapp and her band were left fuming when pooled rainwater on the roof of the main stage suddenly poured onto the stage in the middle of her hit song "Bruises", soaking the singer and damaging some of her equipment.
Videos of the incident shared on social media show Rapp venting her anger on stage, saying:
“Guys, I really really really wanna give you a good show. Um — we are drenched. Some of our equipment is fucked. So, thank you so much, that was so fuckin’ helpful. But we do really wanna give you a good show. So, if you’re down, we will restart with ‘Not My Fault.’ And if I slip and fall, it is not my insurance. I’m not paying for that shit.”
Attempts to continue the show were abandoned after more water fell from the roof, and Rapp left the stage after just four songs. In a video shared to Instagram shortly afterwards (captioned "girl what the fuck was that"), she had just one message to the festival organisers: "Suck my dick!"
Later, on the official Reading and Leeds Instagram stories, organisers expressed their thanks to Rapp "for her perseverance and professionalism amidst the technical difficulties," adding "We know many of you have traveled to see her and are really sorry you did not get the show you deserve. We are desperately hoping, like you, that she will come back to R&L in the future."
The festival was also forced to apologise to Lana Del Rey after "an error by the Reading production team" caused her headline set to be cut short by five minutes.
Rapp has a few more festival appearances lined up for the rest of the year, where she'll no doubt be hoping for better weather. Full list of dates below:
