Today, Radiohead released Hail To The Thief Live Recordings 2003–2009, a compilation of archived concert performances, via 4AD. The tracklist pieces together the different songs played at concerts at home and abroad, notably Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Dublin, and London.
Thom Yorke reworked Hail To The Thief for a special production of Hamlet earlier this year, adapting the music to score a Manchester production of the Shakespeare play. While working on composing the arrangements, he requested old archival recordings of the album.
"I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played and it really helped me find a way forward," he wrote in a statement. "For us, back in the day, the finishing of this record was particularly messy and fraught, we were very proud of it but there was a taste left in our mouths, it was a dark time in so many ways…"
He concluded, "It has all been a very cathartic process, we very much hope you enjoy them."
With the help of producer and mixing engineer Ben Baptie, the band decided to release the archived material in a live album, which is now available for streaming. Matt Colton mastered the record.
A physical version of Hail To The Thief Live Recordings 2003–2009 is due for release October 31 exclusively through Radiohead's store, W.A.S.T.E.
