Britpop is back just in time for its 30th anniversary, but this time one of the big bands of the era finally decided to release new music. Earlier today, Pulp announced More, the band's first album together since 2001's We Love Life. Produced by James Ford (Blur, Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines DC), More will be released on June 6 via Rough Trade.
Pulp also released "Spike Island," their first single off More, today. The synth-forward indie pop tune reflects on changes in the band's career, as vocalist and front man Jarvis Cocker sings in his iconic cool tone, "Something stopped me dead in my tracks / I was heading for disaster, and then I turned back." The music video, directed by Cocker, has photographs of the younger versions of themselves in modern scenes.

The song's title refers to a historic 1990 Stone Roses concert at Spike Island, which many consider to be the precursor to the Britpop era, according to NME.
Pulp officially reunited for the second time in 2022, playing their first gigs together since 2012 a year later. On their UK tour in 2023, they debuted a new song, "Hymn of the North", hinting at the possibility of new music. The band did not release the track, however.
In December 2024, the band made headlines again by officially signing to Rough Trade Records, who had previously only served as the band's managers since their conception.
Pulp are pleased to announce that they have signed a record deal with @RoughTradeRecs. “Rough Trade have managed Pulp for over 30 years so it feels great to be finally on the label. We did it!”

More rumors of new music began to spread quickly after, as the band also announced their You Deserve More UK tour — as well as a slew of festival appearances and a two-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl alongside LCD Soundsystem — slated for later this year.
"When we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called 'Hymn of the North' during soundchecks & eventually played it at the end of our second night at Sheffield Arena," said Cocker on the new record. "This seemed to open the floodgates: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album during the first half of 2024. A couple are revivals of ideas from last century." (Previously unreleased tracks performed on tours like "My Sex", "Farmer's Market", and "Background Noise" are now listed on the record.)
Pulp recorded and produced More in three weeks in November 2024, according to Cocker. "This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record. It was obviously ready to happen," he said. Cocker also clarifies that the new album is 100% human-made. "It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England," he said in a press release, "aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process."
The record is dedicated to musician and producer Steve Mackey, an original member of Pulp who died in March 2023.
