The Grammy-Award winning '90s hip-hop duo OutKast, composed of Big Boi and André 3000, have filed suit against the independent Oakland rapper, Ovrkast.

According to a lawsuit filed on September 16 in Georgia by High Schoolers LLC, the holding company that maintains OutKast's name and trademark,the Oakland rapper (born Silas Wilson) has been accused of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breach of contract to allegedly stop using his alias.

In a 31-page complaint against Ovrkast, OutKast demonstrate how they've spent years building up their name and brand, pointing specifically at a 2025 interview with Rolling Stone where Ovrkast mentions that sometimes people will read his name as Outkast instead of "Ovrkast" as intended (with the name being a reference to the cloudy weather of a winter in Oakland).

The two parties allegedly went through negotiations during 2025 and 2026, and were said to have come to an agreement to phase out the name "Ovrkast" by mid-July of this year, so that Wilson would instead begin to go by "Ovrkxst." However, Ovrkast continued to go by his stage name anyway, and now OutKast have asked the court to permanently stop Wilson from using the name Ovrkast, to destroy all materials with that name, and to pay OutKast an unspecified amount of money for breaching various trademark, contract, and business laws.

Ovrkast's legal team has yet to respond to the allegations. The indie rapper will have 30 days to confirm to the court that he has received the lawsuit.

The Oakland-born rapper-producer released his first mixtape, Try Again, in 2020, and has a long list of collaborators including, but not limited to: Drake, Mavi, Earl Sweatshirt, Navy Blue, Vince Staples, Pink Siifu, Samara Cyn, and more.
