Country pop singer Orville Peck will make his Broadway debut as the principal role of the Emcee in Cabaret at the KitKat Club. Playbill announced earlier today that he, alongside two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada as Sally Bowles, will begin performing at the August Wilson Theatre on March 31. The two will star in the musical revival for 16 weeks, with their final performance on July 20.
Peck, who will be credited under his birth name Daniel Pitout, will take the role of Emcee after Adam Lambert, whose limited engagement as the lead actor will end on March 29, according to Broadway World.
This may be Peck's first appearance on Broadway, but the critically-acclaimed country musician is no stranger to the theater. Trained as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Peck (as Pitout) was a part of the main ensemble of the Christmas 2016 West End production of Peter Pan Goes Wrong, as reported by Broadway World.
Commenting on his participation in next spring's Broadway run of Cabaret, Orville Peck told Playbill:
"The Emcee has been my dream role since I was a teenager. The nature of the character allows for complete freedom of individual expression. It can be portrayed through such a vast range of emotions, perspectives, and performance styles. That kind of freedom is every actor's dream. I truly cannot believe I’m getting to make my Broadway debut in one of my favorite shows and in probably my favorite role in all of musical theatre."
He mentioned his classical training in theater and dance—an art he practiced long before making country music—as well as the many years he spent working hard to get to this moment. "It taught me so much of who I am as a performer and a person," he told Playbill, "so it feels very full circle to be making a return to it at this point in my career.”
