Today, alt-folk artist Ora Cogan announced that her latest album, Hard Hearted Woman, will be coming out March 13 via Sacred Bones. Inspired by nature, spiritual connection, and artistic community, the new record will be the singer-songwriter's first project since 2023's Formless.
Cogan also shared the lead single "Honey", a cool, misty folk rock tune that sets the scene for the "hard-hearted woman" at the center of her new record. Watch the Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez-directed video for it below:
Cogan wrote the record briefly after moving to Nanaimo, British Columbia, where she built her own studio amidst the remote, natural landscapes and the burgeoning art scene. Her new supporting band, made up of local musicians, features Finn Smith, Nancy Pittet, and Kristopher Bowering.
The resulting record focuses on finding one's resilience, pulling together Cogan's memories of travelling through the Canadian countryside, her advocacy journalism background, her late nights with friends, and her more experimental roots. "It’s the shell we grow so our most human, breakable selves can survive," she said via press release. "Hard Hearted Woman is for anyone trying to stay open, even when the world makes that feel impossible."
Cogan will also be going on a small tour in the spring. Beginning with an album release show in Vancouver, BC, she will travel to cities across the UK and Ireland to promote Hard Hearted Woman.
