Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn saw a new christening over the weekend. On July 25, the late Ol' Dirty Bastard – real name Russell Tyrone Jones – was honored with a section of Putnam Avenue renamed ODB Jones Way.
Associates and family members of the Wu-Tang luminary, overseen by Brooklyn Council Member Chi Ossé, were present at a gathering featuring ODB's '95 hit "Brooklyn Zoo" and the reveal of the street sign. Fans poured 40s of liquor on the ground in celebration, while Wu-Tang acknowledged the ceremony on their Instagram; check out the post below.
A mural of Ol' Dirty Bastard, replicating the cover of his debut Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, and the house of the rapper's grandmother are located on ODB Jones Way.
Former NYC Mayor Eric Adams previously declared ODB's birthday, November 15, Ol' Dirty Bastard Day. Bastard passed away in 2004, two days shy of his 36th birthday, from an overdose.
