Oasis celebrate 30th anniversary of "Whatever" with remastered music video and audio

Today marks 30 years since the release of "Whatever," Oasis' standalone single that came in between 1994's Definitely Maybe and 1995's What's The Story (Morning Glory)? To celebrate the occasion, the Britpop legends re-released the track's music video, upgrading the quality to 4K, and they remastered the audio. The video premiered this morning at 10 am GMT (5 am ET).

"Whatever" was originally conceived as the final track of the debut album Definitely Maybe, according to entry found in Noel Gallagher's 1998 "masterplan for Oasis" notebook. It was instead released as a Christmas single—a standalone that wouldn't appear on a record until the Time Flies... (1994-2009) compilation album released in 2010. It was released alongside the singles "Slide Away" (a Definitely Maybe track), "Half The World Away" and "(It's Good) To Be Free)," which were both eventually released on the B-side compilation album The Masterplan, complementing What's The Story (Morning Glory)?

The fanfare doesn't end with a remastered video. Earlier this morning, Oasis also announced that "Whatever" would get a reissue for vinyl. The band will release a limited edition 7" vinyl record including the remastered audio of the track, as well as one of the original B-Sides, "(It's Good) To Be Free." The copies will be available for purchase via their website on February 21.

Yet any signs of new music from the recently reunited band remains in the air. Ever since the band began promoting their massive UK arena tour, as well as the subsequent world tour, Liam Gallagher, in true Liam Gallagher fashion, has constantly been flipping back and forth on X (formerly Twitter). He initially started hinting at a new Oasis album on September 7, replying to a fan's inquiry about new material with, "Yep, it's already finished." A couple months later, he backtracked, tweeting, "...there is no oasis album in the making I was fucking joking...it was a laugh."

Earlier today, however, Liam Gallagher said that there could be a new album. Responding to an X account that asked if a new record would be "insanity," he said, "I reckon we nail this tour and be kind to 1 another there could be an album this is what real bands do let’s just take 1 step at a time I think youde agree that was the wisest move."

That's still not a guarantee, according to Liam. So for now, enjoy the tour and the remastered "Whatever" single.
