NOIA, the avant-pop project of Catalan-American composer and sound designer Gisela Fullà-Silvestre, is back today with "As Per My Last Email." An expression of burnout and overstimulation while living in New York City during a period of great stress and personal struggles, the new single marks her return to her solo music since her 2023 debut album, gisela.

"All night, all day, every day, I'm available," NOIA repeats over a fractured melody — a hard-hitting dark club beat constructed by soft, lullaby-like chiming tones. Admitting via press release her life had become chaotic after moving to Brooklyn, having a child, losing her father, and watching the world spiral, she had begun to feel the absurdity of always being "on," or constantly at the demand of work and life.

"It’s what happens when ‘just circling back’ becomes a way of life," she adds. "A song about the slow collapse of hyper-functionality...answering messages at midnight, running on notifications instead of sleep, until you’re less a person than a broken, over-wired robot still sending polite replies."

The accompanying music video drags the office into nature, blurring the once-harsh boundaries of nature and technology by placing cables, security cameras, computers, lights, and phones into forests and beaches. NOIA, far along in her pregnancy, "is stuck in uncomfortable positions, moving in a glitched, strained rhythm until finally she becomes part of the machine herself," according to Rootwood. "Part painterly, part eerie, the video reflects on what it costs us to be always on: a freedom that might not be freedom at all."

Fullà-Silvestre debuted as NOIA in 2023 with the eccentric, semi-self-titled album gisela. Fusing multiple languages — Catalan, English, Portuguese, and Spanish — and folkloric musical traditions across the same album, the Barcelona-born artist's unique sound implemented tropical house, dembow, and bolero into a jagged, sparkling glitch pop. Outside of her solo project, she's an award-winning composer, sound designer, re-recording mixer, and vocalist for film, television, and music.
