Neil Young is set to embark on his European tour in June, including a headline-grabbing stop at Glastonbury, where he initially pulled out before rejoining the lineup a day later. However, the Toronto-born artist now fears he may not be allowed back into the U.S. after the tour due to his outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump.
Young took to his website, where he frequently speaks out on a myriad of political issues, to express his frustration, writing:
"When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket,” Young wrote. “That is happening all the time now. Countries have new advice for those returning to America. You can read about it at the CANADA Desk. If I come back from Europe and am barred, can’t play my USA tour, all of the folks who bought tickets will not be able to come to a concert by me."
He continued, calling Trump "the worst president in the history of our great country," and, in light of recent deportations of activists, expressed concern that speaking out against the President could lead to falling victim to a "non-existent Trump law."
He concludes his message with the line, "One country, indivisible, with Liberty and Freedom for all. Remember that? I do.”
Trump's view on free speech has clearly been on Young's mind a lot lately, as this post follows one he wrote yesterday titled "I Love Music, But That's Only Half the Story," where he attacked both Trump and Elon Musk, saying, "Our rights to free speech are being taken away and buried by our government."
