Miss Grit announces second album 'Under My Umbrella'

The experimental artist Miss Grit (aka Margaret Sohn) announced details on their upcoming album, Under My Umbrella. Their follow-up to 2023's Follow The Cyborg will be released April 24 via Mute. They've also shared "Stranger", their second single off the record.

"Stranger" comes with an accompanying visualizer, featuring the artist engulfed in a dark red light, gradually becoming more defined against the blur. Watch/listen to the new track below:

"Stranger" follows last year's release of "Tourist Mind", which served as a teaser for the new album.

Under My Umbrella focuses on immediacy, Sohn explains. Much of the album was recorded and mixed on the first take, pulled together with synths and pop production. "I tried not to edit too much or force a moment to happen,” they add, “It feels truer to myself, and more of a representation of what is actually coming out of me." They drew much sonic and lyrical inspiration from the Follow The Cyborg tour, where they felt a strong energy from the spontaneity of a live show.

Aron Kobayashi Ritch, member of the New York City rock band Momma and Miss Grit's long-time mixing engineer, is credited as the co-producer for the album.

Miss Grit will be throwing a hometown album release party in New York City on April 24. They also have two performances scheduled in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now.
