Members of UK's indie scene band together for 'A Hideous Collective'

Opus Kink, a British post-punk band, have teamed up with several UK independent artists to create the A Hideous Collective compilation record, due for release September 5 via Hideous Mink Records.

Available only via vinyl and CD copies, the double-album aims to raise money for the Music Venue Trust and the UK Artist Touring Fund, two advocacy groups dedicated to supporting economic policies that protect and improve grassroots venues.

Opus Kink also released the music video for their single, "Thank You Satan", an English-translated cover of French poet and singer Léo Ferré's 1984 song. It's only available to stream on YouTube; watch it below:

Due to budget cuts, tax increases, and government economic policies, the grassroots indie venues in the United Kingdom are facing mass closures and defunding. "Touring independent music venues is like this," said Opus Kink via press release. "The most passionate organisers are the ones who do it on a shoestring and are often one bad season away from crumbling." They added:

“Support for these venues and humans is starting to glimmer in the ashes through donations and awareness and the work of groups like MVT, but as always, unfortunately, it must also take wresting a more fundamental and top – down offering from the industry to really stay the decimation of grassroots live music culture in this country.”

Alongside a foreword written by none other than Steve Lamacq, the new album features music from English Teacher, Wunderhorse, Lambrini Girls, cumgirl8, Matt Maltese, Nova Twins, Oracle Sisters, and more. The bands — ranging in genre, fame, and background — have contributed either demos, covers, live versions, or new songs for the project.
