Melt-Banana's first album in 11 years, '3+5', is out now

Japanese noise rock freak-outs Melt-Banana are finally back with their first new album since 2013's Fetch. The effort, entitled 3+5, is available now via the band's label, A-ZAP Records.

A press release states that "Melt-Banana seek to offer possibilities to musicians who won’t start a band if they can’t find a drummer, young women afraid to express themselves in their own unfiltered and unique voices, bedroom musicians and egg punks seeking to blend electronic noise with live instrumentation. 3+5 provides a fresh experience and perhaps inspiration for all."

In the past, the band have toured with American prog juggernauts Tool and have collaborated with Mike Patton, Merzbow, and others. They last toured the U.S. in 2023, with Igorrr and Otto von Schirach.

The blistering, 24-minute bonanza was preceded by lead single "Flipside" in late June. "Stopgap" was released at the beginning of the month, with an accompanying music video that you can watch below. Buy the album here.

The band will also be embarking on an extensive UK tour, starting August 29.
