After spending the last two years celebrating their 20th anniversary with an ambitious three-album rollout, Mayday Parade are ready to bring the project to a close. The band has announced Sugar, the final installment in the trilogy that began with Sweet and continued with Sad. The album arrives July 24 via the band's independent imprint Many Hats Endeavors.
Alongside the announcement is the new single "Weekend Music", a track that reminded the band they still have plenty left to say two decades into their career:
Across the trilogy, Mayday Parade have crafted nearly 30 new songs, each chapter highlighting a different side of the band. Sweet leaned into the group's brighter, more energetic tendencies, while Sad explored a more reflective and emotional territory. Sugar is set to tie those threads together, serving as a culmination of everything they've built throughout the project.
“When we began working on Sugar, part three of a three album release, I started to get concerned that we had overextended ourselves,” vocalist Derek Sanders says. “That the good ideas had run dry and needed more time to replenish. ‘Weekend Music’ is one of the songs that came together and put me at ease. It has the catchiness and complexity that I was looking for. It feels good to be able to create a song that we’re proud of so deep into our career.”
Mayday Parade will continue their anniversary celebration on the road throughout 2026, with appearances scheduled at Warped Tour, Four Chord Music Festival, and Aftershock.
